What the bamboo stick actually does to the fragrance

A standard agarbatti is incense paste rolled onto a thin bamboo stick. When you burn it, the bamboo burns too — and burning bamboo has its own smell, a faint acrid woodsmoke that sits underneath every fragrance and is most obvious right at the end of the stick.

Bambooless incense removes the core entirely. The stick is solid incense throughout. What you smell is only the sandalwood, the smoke volume drops, and there is no charred skewer left in the holder.

How to use

1. Light the tip, let it flame briefly, then blow it out so it glows.
2. Because there is no rigid core, stand it in an ash tray or a bed of ash rather than pushing it into a tight stick holder — solid incense is more brittle.
3. Handle gently; bambooless sticks snap more easily than bamboo-core ones.

A note on smoke

All incense and dhoop produce smoke and particulates. Burn in a ventilated room, avoid small closed spaces, and take care around anyone with asthma or a respiratory condition.
