Bhimseni is not the same as ordinary camphor

Almost all camphor sold for aarti is synthetic, pressed from turpentine into uniform round tablets. Bhimseni camphor is the natural kind — derived from the camphor tree rather than manufactured — and it comes as irregular translucent crystals, not neat discs.

The differences you can actually notice: the aroma is cooler and sweeter rather than sharp, the crystals are uneven in size and shape, and it burns clean with no oily residue. It is the camphor traditionally specified for puja, and the reason it costs more than a tablet pack is simply that it is the natural material.

Details

  • 50 g natural Bhimseni camphor crystals
  • Irregular crystalline form — not pressed tablets
  • Characteristic cooling, sweet aroma
  • Burns clean with no residue
  • Sealed jar to slow sublimation

How to use it

  1. Place a small quantity in a kapoor dani for the closing aarti.
  2. It is also traditionally offered in havan and used in abhishek preparations.
  3. A few crystals in a bowl will fragrance a room; this is common practice during Navratri and Diwali.
  4. Let it burn out completely rather than extinguishing it.

Storage

Bhimseni sublimates faster than pressed tablets because of its crystalline form and greater surface area. Keep the jar tightly closed, away from heat and sunlight. Left open, it will noticeably reduce within weeks.

Safety

Flammable and burns hot — keep clear of cloth, curtains and hair, and ventilate the room. Toxic if swallowed, especially by children; keep well out of reach and seek medical attention immediately if ingested.

Ideal for

Traditional aarti, Satyanarayan and Rudrabhishek puja, havan, abhishek preparations, temple use, and room fragrancing.

Bhimseni is natural camphor derived from the camphor tree and comes as irregular translucent crystals with a cooler, sweeter aroma. Ordinary aarti camphor is synthetic, made from turpentine and pressed into uniform tablets.

Because it is the natural material rather than a manufactured one. Synthetic camphor is produced at scale from turpentine, which is why tablet packs cost less.

Yes. Irregular crystal size and shape is characteristic of natural Bhimseni. Perfectly uniform discs indicate pressed synthetic camphor.

Camphor sublimates, and the crystalline form has more surface area than a pressed tablet so it goes faster. Keep the jar tightly closed and away from heat.

Yes. Bhimseni is traditionally offered in havan and used in abhishek preparations as well as for aarti.

Keep it well out of reach. Camphor is toxic if swallowed and even small amounts require immediate medical attention.
