The smell of a house being cleansed

Loban is benzoin resin. Across India it is burned at dusk, after cleaning, after illness, and when a house has felt unsettled — carried room to room so the smoke reaches the corners. The fragrance is sweet, warm and balsamic, quite different from the sharp resin of guggal.

The cone format simply makes it easier: no charcoal, no separate burner, no loose resin to manage. Light the tip and set it down.

How to use

1. Place a cone on a metal tray, a brass incense holder tray, or a bed of ash.
2. Light the tip and let it flame for a few seconds, then blow it out so the tip glows.
3. Leave it to burn down from the tip. Do not move it while lit.
4. To purify a home, many carry the tray slowly room to room once it is burning steadily.
5. Let it burn out and cool before clearing the ash.

Safety

The tray gets hot and stays hot. Never place a cone directly on cloth, wood, tile or marble, and keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Ventilate the room.

A note on smoke

All incense and dhoop produce smoke and particulates. Burn in a ventilated room, avoid small closed spaces, and take care around anyone with asthma or a respiratory condition.
