Where rose water belongs in a puja

  • Abhishek — offered as one of the ceremonial baths, after milk and before the final gangajal
  • Purification — sprinkled over the mandir, the chowki and the puja items before beginning
  • Deity offering — offered as arghya and used to wash the murti’s feet in shodashopachara puja
  • Guest welcome — sprinkled on guests at weddings and ceremonies
  • Prasad and bhog — a few drops added to sweets and kheer

Details

  • 100 ml gulab jal
  • Natural rose fragrance
  • Sealed bottle
  • Ritual grade

How to use

  1. For abhishek, pour a small quantity over the murti or Shivling in sequence with the other offerings.
  2. For purification, sprinkle with the fingers or with a few durva or mango leaves.
  3. Pour rather than dip — keep fingers and used vessels out of the bottle.
  4. Reseal after each use.

Storage

Keep sealed in a cool, dark place. Rose water loses fragrance in heat and sunlight, and an opened bottle left warm goes flat within weeks.

An honest note

Abhishek, purifying the mandir and puja items, offering as arghya to the deity, welcoming guests at ceremonies, and adding a few drops to prasad.

Commonly after milk and curd and before the final gangajal rinse, though sequences vary by tradition and by the vidhi being followed.

Heat and light. Rose water goes flat quickly in a warm or sunlit place. Keep the bottle sealed in a cool dark cupboard.

Pour. Keeping fingers and used vessels out of the bottle keeps it ritually clean and stops it spoiling.

Gulab jal is not in the standard kits - gangajal is. This bottle is for households that want rose water for abhishek and purification alongside their kit.
