This sindoor is sold for ritual and deity use — offering to the murti, Hanuman ji’s chola, Devi shringar and mandir application. It is not sold or tested as a cosmetic, and we do not recommend applying it to skin or hair.

This matters. Traditional and cheaply produced sindoor has repeatedly been found to contain lead compounds and other heavy metals, and studies in India and abroad have flagged this specifically for sindoor used cosmetically over years. If you want sindoor to wear daily, buy a product that is explicitly cosmetic-grade and tested for heavy metals, from a brand that states so. We would rather say this plainly than sell you the wrong thing.

What it is used for

• Hanuman ji’s chola — sindoor mixed with chameli oil, applied to the murti on Tuesdays and Saturdays
• Devi shringar — offered as part of the goddess’s adornment during Navratri and Devi puja
• Deity offering — applied to the murti in daily puja
• Ceremonial use — sindoor daan in the Vivah sequence, where a separate cosmetic-grade sindoor is normally used for the bride

Applying Hanuman ji’s chola

1. Bathe and clean the murti first.
2. Mix sindoor with chameli (jasmine) oil to a smooth paste — this is the traditional combination.
3. Apply evenly over the murti with the ring finger.
4. Traditionally done on a Tuesday or Saturday.
5. Offer a chola cloth, flowers and prasad afterwards.

Storage

Keep in a closed dry container, away from food, and out of reach of children. Wash your hands after handling.
