Brass Ganesh Idol - Small

A permanent murti, not a festival one

There are two kinds of Ganesh idol and they are not interchangeable. The clay Ganpati is installed for Ganesh Chaturthi and immersed at visarjan. A brass murti is permanent — it is installed once in the mandir and worshipped every day, year after year.

This is the second kind: the Ganesha that sits in the home mandir, on the office desk, or at the shop counter, receiving the daily tilak.

Placement

1. Face the idol north or east where possible; the north-east corner is traditionally preferred for the mandir.
2. Ganesha is worshipped first in any puja, so place the murti where it can be reached before the other deities.
3. A Ganesha facing the entrance from inside is traditionally considered auspicious for the home.
4. Keep the murti raised on a chowki or shelf rather than directly on the floor.

Caring for brass

1. Wipe dry after each use to remove ghee, oil and camphor residue.
2. Clean weekly with tamarind pulp, lemon and salt, or a mild brass cleaner.
3. Dry fully before returning it to the mandir — trapped moisture causes spotting.
4. Brass darkens naturally into a patina. Many households polish only before Diwali.
