Ten days of daily puja, packed once

Ganesh Chaturthi is not a single evening. Bappa is installed on Chaturthi and worshipped every day until visarjan — abhishek, durva, modak bhog and aarti, morning and evening, for up to ten days.

Households usually buy for day one and run out by day four. This kit is measured for the full festival, so the daily puja holds from sthapana through to visarjan.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 dates

  • Ganesh Chaturthi / Sthapana — Monday, 14 September 2026
  • Anant Chaturdashi / Visarjan — Friday, 25 September 2026
  • Ganeshotsav — 14 to 25 September 2026

Sthapana is traditionally performed during the madhyahna muhurat (midday), as Ganesha is believed to have been born in that period. Muhurat timings vary by city with sunrise — confirm yours against a local panchang before fixing the hour. Many households observe Dedh Din, 3-day, 5-day or 7-day Ganpati instead of the full ten; the samagri is the same, it simply lasts longer.

What is inside the Advik Rituals kit

  • 21 durva grass — the offering most sacred to Ganesha, and the one most often missing
  • Red hibiscus and marigold garland
  • Panchamrit for daily abhishek across the ten days
  • Modak prasad items and bhog samagri
  • Red flowers, sindoor and kumkum
  • Incense, dhoop, camphor and ghee diyas for morning and evening aarti
  • Kalash with coconut and mango leaves for sthapana
  • Ganesh Chaturthi puja vidhi and aarti booklet

The complete Ganesh Chaturthi samagri list

This is the full traditional list the shodashopachara vidhi draws on, so you can see what the ritual calls for and what you still need to arrange at home. Items marked (in kit) are supplied above; the rest are fresh or personal items best sourced locally on the day.

  • Chowki or wooden platform
  • Red or yellow cloth for the chowki

  • Toran for the door, and rangoli colours

  • Ladoo, pedha or barfi
  • Supari and paan leaves (in kit)
  • Cloves and cardamom (in kit)
  • Jaggery and sugar / khadisakhar (in kit)

Why durva matters more than anything else on the list

Of all offerings, durva grass is the one specifically associated with Ganesha. It is traditionally offered in 21 blades, tied in bunches of three, and the vidhi treats it as non-negotiable. Most general puja kits omit it entirely — which makes it precisely the item a Ganpati puja cannot do without.

One thing never to offer Ganesha

Tulsi is not offered to Lord Ganesha. This is one of the few firm prohibitions in Hindu ritual practice, and it comes from the Puranic account in which Tulsi and Ganesha exchanged curses — after which he declared that her leaves would never be acceptable in his worship.

This catches people out constantly, because tulsi is offered to almost every other deity and is essential in Vishnu and Krishna puja. Some regional samagri lists still print tulsi patra out of habit. If your family tradition or your pandit specifies otherwise, follow them — but the general rule is clear, and it is worth knowing before the thali is laid out.

How the ten days run

  1. Chaturthi — Sthapana. Install the murti on a decorated chowki during the madhyahna muhurat, establish the kalash with coconut and mango leaves, and take the sankalp.
  2. Pranapratishtha — invoking the deity into the murti, followed by the sixteen-step shodashopachara puja.
  3. Daily. Abhishek with panchamrit, sindoor tilak, 21 durva, red hibiscus, modak bhog, and aarti morning and evening.
  4. Uttar puja — performed on the final morning, before the murti is moved.
  5. Visarjan. On Anant Chaturdashi or the chosen day, the murti is immersed with the Ganpati Bappa Morya chant.

The enclosed booklet sets out the vidhi and the aarti in full.

What to arrange separately

The Ganesh murti itself, fresh milk and curd for panchamrit, fresh modak or ladoo, fresh flowers and durva on the day if you prefer them green, the decorated chowki, and rangoli colours. Our eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols are listed separately so you can choose the size — they dissolve in a bucket at home, which matters where societies have banned plaster of Paris.

Ideal for

Ganesh Chaturthi and Vinayaka Chaturthi, the 10-day home Ganpati, Dedh Din and 5-day observances, Sankashti Chaturthi through the year, community mandap puja, and NRI households celebrating abroad.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 falls on Monday 14 September, with visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi, Friday 25 September. Sthapana is traditionally performed during the madhyahna (midday) muhurat, which varies by city - confirm your local timing against a panchang.

No. Tulsi is one of the few offerings traditionally forbidden in Ganesha worship, from the Puranic account in which Tulsi and Ganesha exchanged curses. Some regional samagri lists still print it out of habit. Offer durva and red hibiscus instead.

No. The kit contains the puja samagri. Eco-friendly clay and brass Ganesh idols are listed separately in our Idols & Murtis range so you can choose the size and material - clay idols dissolve at home, which matters where societies restrict plaster of Paris.

Yes. The quantities are measured for the full festival, including panchamrit for daily abhishek and enough incense, camphor and wicks for morning and evening aarti through to visarjan.

Durva is the offering most specifically associated with Ganesha, traditionally given as 21 blades tied in bunches of three. Most general puja kits omit it, which makes it the single item a Ganpati puja cannot do without.

Yes. Many households observe Dedh Din, 5-day or 7-day Ganpati. The samagri is identical and simply lasts longer, and anything left over keeps for Sankashti Chaturthi through the year.

Twenty-one is the traditional count. Modak are prepared fresh at home and are not included in the kit, though the bhog samagri and panchkhadya for the naivedya are.

As early as possible. Ganesh Chaturthi opens the Indian festive season and courier volumes rise sharply in the two weeks before it. For a 14 September sthapana, order by the first week of September.
