Not every griha pravesh includes a havan
The move itself is the ritual: entering at the muhurat right foot first, the kalash carried by the lady of the house, the milk boiled over in the new kitchen, the sankalp taken, and the home blessed. Many families — especially those moving into a flat, or moving at short notice — do exactly this and no more.
A Vastu Shanti havan is added when a pandit is engaged and a kund can be lit safely. That needs samagri, samidha, mango wood and guggal in kilos, which is what the Complete kit carries.

How the ceremony runs
- Enter the new home at the muhurat, right foot first, with the kalash carried by the lady of the house.
- Boil milk in the kitchen and let it overflow — the traditional sign of abundance entering the home.
- Establish the kalash with gangajal, coconut and cloth, and take the sankalp on the red cloth.
- Perform Ganesh puja, then the Vastu puja.
- Complete the aarti with camphor and the shankh, and distribute prasad.
The vidhi book sets out the full sequence and mantras.
A note on quantities
Item quantities in the Essential kit are sized for one performance of the ritual in a household setting. Where a puja runs long, has many guests, or includes a full havan, the Complete kit is the correct choice — it carries the same items in ceremony quantities plus the havan and extended naivedya components.
Choosing the muhurat
Grih Pravesh is traditionally avoided during Chaturmas, Kharmas or Malmas, and on inauspicious tithis. Muhurat lists vary between panchangs and by regional tradition — confirm your date with your family pandit rather than a published list.
What to arrange separately
Milk for the boiling ritual, fresh flowers and a mango-leaf toran, fruits, ghee for the lamps, and rangoli colours. The havan kund and havan samagri are not part of this kit.
