Hanuman Jayanti marks the birth of Shri Hanuman — devotion, courage and discipline in one form, and the devotee whose name is spoken before Rama's own. On the day the murti is anointed with sindoor, the Chalisa is recited through the morning, and in many homes the Bajrang Baan and Sunderkand follow.

Sindoor Without Chameli Oil Is Useless

This is the section worth reading before you compare kits.

Sindoor is Hanuman's own offering. The tradition holds that Sita applied it to her forehead for Rama's long life, and Hanuman — reasoning that if a little brought long life, then more would bring more — covered his entire body in it. It is why his murti is orange, and why sindoor is what a devotee brings.

But sindoor is not applied dry. It is mixed with chameli (jasmine) oil into a paste, and that paste is what goes on the murti. A kit that ships sindoor without the oil has shipped you a powder you cannot use as intended — and most of them do exactly that, because chameli oil costs more than another sachet of akshat.

You have 50 g of sindoor and 50 ml of chameli oil here, in the proportion the ritual actually consumes.

Hanuman Jayanti Is Not One Date

Of every festival in the Hindu calendar, this is the one most likely to be observed on a completely different day from the one you assume.

• North and West India — Chaitra Purnima, the full moon of Chaitra, in March or April.
• Tamil Nadu — Hanumath Jayanti in the month of Margazhi, around December or January.
• Karnataka — observed in Margashirsha, again in the December–January window.
• Andhra Pradesh and Telangana — a 41-day observance beginning on Chaitra Purnima and concluding in Vaishakha.

Follow your own regional panchang, not a national calendar. This kit is not date-bound and can be used whenever your tradition observes the day.

The Puja Sequence

1. Shuddhikaran and sankalp. Purify the space with gangajal and read the sankalp card. Many devotees keep a fast until the puja, taking only fruit and milk.
2. Ganesh puja. Worship Gauri-Ganesh first.
3. Hanuman puja. Place the picture on the red or saffron cloth, facing east or north. Offer chandan, roli, akshat and mauli.
4. Sindoor. Mix the sindoor with chameli oil into a smooth paste and apply it to the murti or picture. This is the central offering of the day.
5. Ram Naam and Chalisa. Recite the Hanuman Chalisa from the included card — eleven, twenty-one or one hundred and eight times, as your sankalp allows — followed by the Bajrang Baan.
6. Bhog. Offer gud, mishri, batasha, panchmeva, and fresh boondi, ladoo or bananas arranged locally.
7. Havan — optional. Use the included samagri, samidha, gomay cakes, kala til and jau, with ghee arranged locally.
8. Aarti. Perform the Hanuman aarti with the clay diya and Bhimseni kapoor, then distribute prasad.

Not Only for the Jayanti

Tuesday is Hanuman's own day, and Saturday worship is observed for relief from Shani-related difficulty — the tradition holds that Shani granted Hanuman a boon that his devotees would be spared. That is roughly eight or nine occasions a month, every month.

The consumables in this kit — sindoor, chameli oil, agarbatti, batti, kapoor and gud — carry well beyond the festival. One kit comfortably covers the Jayanti plus several weeks of Tuesday and Saturday worship afterwards.

Hanuman Jayanti and Ram Navami

In the North Indian calendar the two fall in the same fortnight — Ram Navami on Chaitra Shukla Navami, and Hanuman Jayanti on the Purnima that follows about six days later. Households that keep both may want the Ram Navami Puja Kit, which includes the full Ram Darbar with Hanuman at their feet.
