The puja of a promise kept
Satyanarayan puja is performed when something has gone right. A vow fulfilled, a house moved into, a business begun, a child born, a marriage completed. Families gather, the katha is read in five chapters, and the prasad is shared.
It is also the most commonly repeated puja in the Hindu calendar — observed on Purnima each month — which means the samagri gets used often and runs out quietly. This kit is assembled so the puja can be called at short notice and still be complete.

- Read the Satyanarayan Katha in its five adhyayas, with the family seated together.
- Perform the havan with the samagri, samidha and guggal.
- Offer the prasad, perform aarti with camphor, and distribute the prasad to all present.
When Satyanarayan puja is performed
Most commonly on Purnima (full moon) each month, and on Kartik Purnima and Vaishakh Purnima in particular. It is also performed on Ekadashi, at griha pravesh, after a marriage, on the birth of a child, at the start of a business, or whenever a vow has been fulfilled.
What to arrange separately
Fresh milk, curd and ghee for the panchamrit, bananas and banana leaves, fresh flowers, tulsi leaves, and the sinni or sheera prasad (semolina, sugar, ghee, banana) are prepared at home on the day. The Satyanarayan Katha book and the pandit’s dakshina are arranged separately.
