Mahashivratri is observed as a night-long vigil. The traditional form is the four-prahar puja — abhishek performed four times across the night, each with its own offering, from dusk until dawn.

That means four rounds of samagri, not one. Kits sized for an evening puja run out by the second prahar. This one is packed for the whole night.

The four-prahar puja

1. First prahar — abhishek with water, offering belpatra.
2. Second prahar — abhishek with curd.
3. Third prahar — abhishek with ghee.
4. Fourth prahar — abhishek with honey, closing with aarti at dawn.

Each round is accompanied by the Shiva mantras, and the vrat is broken the next morning. The vidhi booklet sets out the sequence and mantras for all four prahars.

Mahashivratri kit or Rudrabhishek kit?

This kit is built for the Shivratri night vigil — a Shivling, jalpatra and enough samagri for four rounds of abhishek.
