Vidya, Buddhi Aur Kala Ke Shubh Aarambh Ke Liye.
Saraswati Puja is not performed for the adults of the house. It is performed for the children, their books, their instruments and — in many families — their very first letters. On Vasant Panchami the household turns yellow, the books are set down at the goddess's feet, and nobody studies.
The Advik Rituals Saraswati Puja Kit carries 39 essentials for that day — the Maa Saraswati picture, the full tilak and naivedya set, an optional small havan, three printed cards, and a slate. Curated in Kashi.
Why There Is a Slate in This Box
Vasant Panchami is the traditional day for Vidyarambham — also called Akshar Abhyasam — when a young child writes their first letters before Maa Saraswati. A parent or grandparent guides the hand; the first stroke is made in rice, or on a slate, and the child is formally begun on the path of learning.
The slate and two chalks in this kit exist for that moment. It is the only thing in our entire catalogue that a family is likely to keep — long after the samagri is used up, the slate with a child's first letter on it stays in a cupboard.
It is also what makes this a Saraswati kit rather than a generic puja box with a different label on the front.

The Rule Most Families Get Wrong: Put the Books Down
The books, notebooks, pens and instruments are placed before Maa Saraswati on the evening before the puja — and they are not touched again until the puja is complete.
That means no studying on Vasant Panchami. For a family with a child sitting boards in two months, this feels counterintuitive, and it is the part most households now skip. But the whole meaning of the observance is the offering: you place your learning at her feet and take it back blessed. Studying through the day is taking it back before it has been given.
Take the books back only after the aarti. Then the year's work begins.
When to Perform It
The principal day is Vasant Panchami, the fifth day of the bright fortnight of Magha, falling in late January or early February. The puja is performed in the purvahna — the pre-noon window — rather than at sunrise or in the evening, so check a panchang for the muhurat in your own city.
Saraswati is also worshipped on Maha Navami during Navratri, and in Bengal, Odisha, Bihar and Assam the Vasant Panchami observance is a full community festival with pandals and visarjan the following day.
Why Everything Is Yellow
Vasant Panchami marks the arrival of spring, when the mustard fields across North India come into bloom. The colour of that bloom runs through the whole festival — yellow clothes, yellow flowers, yellow prasad such as kesar kheer, boondi laddoo and yellow rice.
The 50 g of peeli sarson in this kit is that connection made literal: the mustard itself, offered on the day the fields turn.
What to Keep Ready — Not Kit Contents
These are not items we supply. They are the objects placed before the goddess, and they are yours:
Books • School notebooks • Pens and pencils • Musical instruments • Art supplies • Laptop or study tools • Children's educational materials
The Puja Sequence
- Set the altar the evening before. Spread the white or yellow cloth, place the Maa Saraswati picture facing east or north-east, and arrange the books, notebooks, pens and instruments before her.
- Shuddhikaran and sankalp. Bathe, wear yellow if the family keeps the custom, purify the space with gangajal and read the sankalp card.
- Ganesh puja. Worship Gauri-Ganesh first.
- Saraswati puja. Offer chandan, roli or kumkum, haldi, akshat, mauli, itra, flowers and dhoop.
- Saraswati Vandana. Recite from the included card — the familiar prayer beginning "Ya Kundendu Tushara Hara Dhavala".
- Vidyarambh. For a young child, guide their hand to write the first letters on the slate.
- Havan — optional. Use the included samagri, samidha and gomay cakes, with ghee arranged locally.
- Aarti and prasad. Perform the aarti with the clay diya and Bhimseni kapoor, then distribute prasad — and only now take the books back.
For Schools, Coaching Institutes and Music Academies
Saraswati Puja is an institutional occasion as much as a household one. Schools, coaching centres, music and dance academies and art studios across North and East India hold it every year, often for a hall of students at once.
This kit is sized for a single altar. For an institutional puja — a larger havan, multiple altars, or prasad for a hall — contact us before ordering and we will advise on quantities.
What You Arrange Fresh
Fresh white and yellow flowers • Marigold • Mango leaves • Bel or paan leaves if required • Fresh coconut • Seasonal fruit • Banana • Ber • Milk • Curd • Honey • Ghee • Fresh mithai • Kheer • Panchamrit ingredients
Ghee is not included, including for the havan — it adds weight and leakage risk in transit, and good ghee is available everywhere in India.
Saraswati During Navratri
Saraswati is worshipped on Maha Navami as part of the nine nights. If your household keeps the full Navratri, the Navratri Puja Kit covers the ghatasthapana and the Devi worship of the preceding days.
