Vrat, Bhakti Aur Vishnu Kripa Ka Pavitra Sankalp.
Ekadashi comes twice a lunar month, twenty-four times a year. Grain is set aside, tulsi is offered to Vishnu, the katha is read, and the fast is broken the next morning inside a window the panchang defines. It is not a festival — it is a discipline, kept month after month.
The Advik Rituals Ekadashi Vrat Puja Kit carries 35 essentials for that discipline — the Vishnu-Lakshmi picture, a tulsi mala, the puja samagri, vrat foods, and five printed cards including a parana reminder. No havan: Ekadashi does not call for one, and we are not going to sell you samidha you will not burn.
The Rule That Undoes More Ekadashi Vrats Than Any Other: Parana
The fast is not complete when you stop eating. It is complete when you break it correctly.
Parana — breaking the fast — must happen the morning after Ekadashi, after sunrise and within the window the panchang gives for that day. Breaking it outside that window is held to negate the vrat entirely. Two things commonly go wrong:
- Breaking too early. Parana should not be done during Hari Vasara — the first quarter of the Dwadashi tithi. You wait for it to pass.
- Breaking too late. Parana must be completed before the Dwadashi tithi ends. Sleeping in can cost you the vrat you kept all day.
The window is often only an hour or two wide, and it moves with your city's sunrise. Check the panchang for your own location the night before — that is what the parana reminder card in this kit is for.

Why a Tulsi Mala and Not Tulsi Leaves
We ship the mala. We do not ship the leaves, and there is a ritual reason as well as a practical one.
Tulsi is not plucked on Ekadashi itself. The leaves for the puja are gathered on Dashami, the day before, and kept. So even a perfect delivery could not solve this for you — the plucking has to be planned a day ahead regardless of what arrives in the box.
And fresh tulsi cannot be posted across India. Dried tulsi is not what most families' practice calls for, and we are not going to put it in the box and let the label imply otherwise. Fresh tulsi patra is to be arranged locally.
What we do include is a tulsi mala, for the japa that accompanies the vrat.
The Vrat Foods — and What They Are Not
100 g each of makhana, sabudana and sendha namak are included because they are what a vrat kitchen actually needs and what a puja-only kit leaves you to work out yourself.
Sendha namak is the specific one. Ordinary table salt is avoided on vrat days; rock salt is what is used instead, and it is the item most households discover they are missing at eight in the evening.
These are starter quantities for the puja and a light vrat meal. This kit does not claim to contain all the food a fast requires — fasting rules differ by Ekadashi, by sampradaya and by family, and some observers take only water or nothing at all.
The Puja Sequence
- Shuddhikaran. Purify the puja place with gangajal.
- Sankalp. Read the sankalp card and take the vrat according to your family tradition.
- Ganesh puja. Worship Gauri-Ganesh first.
- Vishnu-Lakshmi puja. Place the picture on the yellow cloth facing east. Offer chandan, roli, akshat, flowers and the fresh tulsi gathered the day before.
- Mantra and katha. Recite "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" from the mantra card, and read the katha for the Ekadashi being observed.
- Bhog. Offer mishri, panchmeva, makhana and fruit as your tradition allows.
- Aarti. Perform the Vishnu aarti with the clay diya and Bhimseni kapoor.
- Parana. Break the fast the next morning inside the correct window.
The Twenty-Four Ekadashis
Each has its own name and its own katha — among them Nirjala Ekadashi, kept without even water and considered the most demanding; Devshayani, when Vishnu is said to begin his four-month rest; Devuthani or Prabodhini, when he wakes and the wedding season resumes; and Vaikuntha Ekadashi, observed with particular devotion in the south. An adhik maas year adds two more.
The katha card in this kit is general guidance for the observance. Read the katha specific to the Ekadashi you are keeping — your panchang or family tradition will name it.
If You Keep the Monthly Cycle
Households that observe Ekadashi usually keep more of the lunar calendar than most. You may also want the Satyanarayan Puja Kit for the Purnima katha, the Lakshmi Puja Kit for Friday worship, the Pradosh Vrat Puja Kit for the other fortnightly vrat.
